Man who attacked Oasis’ Noel Gallagher pleads guilty

Daniel Sullivan admits causing bodily harm

The man accused of attacking ex-Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher in Toronto last year has pleaded guilty to assault.

Daniel Sullivan admitted causing bodily harm to Gallagher in the Ontario Court of Justice yesterday (November 20).

“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical chords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” said Crown attorney Ruth Neilson in reading an agreed statement of facts to Justice Richard Schneide.

The court heard Sullivan almost made it to Liam Gallagher, but was tackled by security and was taken to the ground on stage.

He was then held backstage and police said Sullivan was resisting, struggling and screaming as he was arrested. Officers tried to calm him down.

Gallagher was attacked at the V Festival in Canada on September 7 2008.

He suffered three broken ribs, causing the band to cancel a slew of gigs.

Neilson said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time and has no recollection of how he was able to mount the stage, except that he “remembers attempting to climb over the fence”.

Noel Gallagher stated it took eight months before he felt normal again, reports the Toronto Sun.

Schneider ordered a pre-sentence report for Sullivan. His sentencing hearing will begin on February 5, 2010.

Liam Gallagher’s family shrug off rumours it’s the end of Oasis

Liam Gallagher

Liam Gallagher

Oasis will never split, according to Liam Gallagher’s sister-in-law.

Natalie Appleton told the Mirror: “Oasis will die before they split up… they’re going to go on for ever until they are old men.” There had been reports that the rockers were about to call it a day after they pulled out of their V festival gig on Sunday.

The last-minute cancellation was blamed on Liam’s “viral laryngitis” but there have been rumours that the constant infighting between him and brother Noel had finally taken its toll.

But Natalie, 36, whose sister Nicole is married to the Oasis frontman, scoffed: “The rumours are absolute rubbish. Even in his sick bed Liam was vowing to get back on stage. We were all hoping to go down to V together but sadly it didn’t happen.”

“The guys were so devastated. Liam watched from his sick bed.”

Snow Patrol filled Oasis’s headline slot at the festival in Chelmsford and covered some of their tunes, along with Keane.

Speaking at Frankie’s restaurant in Knightsbridge at the launch of Adee Phelan’s Fabulous Haircare, Natalie added: “Liam was so happy Snow Patrol and Keane sang some of their songs. He thought that was brilliant.”

Liam Gallagher breaks silence on Oasis’ V Festival cancellation

Silent singer users Twitter to apologise to fans

Liam Gallagher has broken his silence after Oasis were ruled out of V Festival yesterday (August 23).

Having played the Staffordshire leg of the event, the band pulled out of Chelmsford after Liam Gallagher caught viral laryngitis.

Using Twitter, the singer apologised to fans and bemoaned his inability to sing.

“The voice may of disappeared but I’m still here,” he wrote. “First things first V I’m gutted, you’re gutted. I’m sorry, what can I say? Fuck all at the moment.”

He added: “Secondly, respect to those bands who covered Oasis last night, even though I might of given some of you shit in the past.”

Snow Patrol, Keane and MGMT all played Oasis covers at the Chelmsford leg of V Festival last night (August 23).

Gallagher also dismissed tabloid speculation that the band were set to break-up.

“Finally reports in smartarses’ column about Oasis last British gig ever,” he concluded. “The kid’s talking out his arse, I mean Rkids, beware of darkness.”

Liam on V Festival

As many of you may be aware, Liam took to his private Twitter page yesterday to apologise for Oasis not being able to play at Sunday’s V Festival and quash tabloid trash about it being the last ever Oasis UK gig:

“The voice may of disappeared but I’m still here.1st things first V I’m gutted your gutted,I’m sorry what can I say fuck all at the moment.”

“Secondly, respect to those bands who covered Oasis last night, even though I might of given some of you shit in the past…”

“Finally reports in smartarses column about Oasis last british gig ever. The kids talking out his arse, I mean rkids, bware of darkness. LG”

V Festival was always scheduled as the last UK gig for this ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ World Tour. Oasis will complete the rest of the world tour in Europe and then take some well-earned time off before they begin to think about the next album and tour.

MGMT joined by Liam Gallagher cut-out at V Festival

Band cover absent Oasis in Chelmsford

MGMT played a headline tent show at the V Festival tonight (August 23), covering Oasis and playing with a cardboard cut-out of the Manchester legends’ singer Liam Gallagher on stage.

The gesture was a tribute to Gallagher‘s band, who had pulled out of a headline slot on the V Stage tonight due to Liam suffering from laryngitis.

Yesterday (August 22) the Brooklyn act had played at the same time as Oasis and had thanked fans for coming to see them despite the competition.

Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser opened their set with a version of Oasis’ ‘Live Forever‘, with the Liam cut-out placed at the front of the stage. The crowd responded with huge cheers, erupting into leaps and hand-waves when MGMT played their own hit ‘Kids‘ next.

As well ‘Kids‘ and similarly well-received older songs ‘Time To Pretend‘ and ‘Electric Feel‘, the band played new songs ‘Congratulations‘, ‘Song For Dan Treacy‘ and ‘It’s Working‘.

The new songs are set for the duo’s next album, due out next year.

Keeping chat to a minimum beyond asking the crowd “How’re you doin’?”, they ended their set with an encore of ‘Pieces Of What‘ and an amped-up version of ‘The Handshake‘, helping to close the final day of the 2009 festival.

MGMT played:

‘Live Forever’
‘Kids’
‘Of Moons, Birds & Monsters’
‘Congratulations’
‘Time To Pretend’
‘Song For Dan Treacy’
‘Weekend Wars’
‘The Youth’
‘Future Reflections’
‘Electric Feel’
‘It’s Working’
‘Pieces Of What’
‘The Handshake’

Snow Patrol and Keane cover Oasis as Gallaghers miss V Festival

Chelmsford’s makeshift headliners happy to fill in ‘for best crowd ever’

Snow Patrol covered Oasis on the final night (August 23) of V Festival 2009 at Chelmsford, after they had to fill in as headliners for the illness-stricken band.

Gary Lightbody‘s men topped the bill after Liam Gallagher caught viral laryngitis.

To make-up for their absence, the group covered ‘Wonderwall‘ and ‘Champagne Supernova‘ acoustically during their encore, with frontman Lightbody declaring: “The mighty Oasis should be here tonight!”

Snow Patrol had discovered that despite boos greeting news of Oasis’ cancellation earlier in the day, they were warmly received as headliners by the V Stage crowd.

“Already you’re one of the best crowds we’ve ever played to,” Lightbody declared after just two songs. “It’s a dark, dark time but we’ll try to shed some light on it.”

Later the band dedicated ‘Run‘ to Elbow, who had played just ahead of Snow Patrol. Lightbody declared them “a national treasure”.

Enjoying loud crowd sing-a-longs throughout their set, ‘Shut Your Eyes‘ saw the band play the halves of the V Stage arena off against the other with a series of shout outs.

Following the Oasis covers, Snow Patrol completed their encore with their own ‘Tiny Little Fractures‘ and ‘You’re All I Have‘.

Snow Patrol played:

‘If There’s A Rocket Tie Me To It’
‘You Could Be Happy’
‘Hands Open’
‘Spitting Games’
‘How To Be Dead’
‘Somewhere There’s A Clock Ticking’
‘Set The Fire To The Third Bar’
‘Make These Go On Forever’
‘Run’
‘Shut Your Eyes’
‘Chasing Cars’
‘It’s Beginning To Get To Me’
‘Take Back The City’
‘Open Your Eyes’
‘Wonderwall’
‘Champagne Supernova’
‘Tiny Little Fractures’
‘You’re All I Have’

Taking the top spot on the 4Music Stage Keane also compensated for Oasis’ absence by covering ‘Cast No Shadow‘ acoustically.

The trio thanked fans for choosing to see them over the other headline acts. “We’re immensely proud of every single one of you,” declared frontman Tom Chaplin as they played a set including ‘Everybody’s Changing‘, ‘Spiralling‘ and ‘You Don’t See Me‘ which Chaplin admitted was his favourite Keane song, asking the crowd to hold up lighters and phones and light the place up “like a Christmas tree”.

Oasis cancel V festival Chelmsford headline slot

Liam Gallagher forced out of tonight’s (Aug 23) festival-closing set due to illness

Oasis have cancelled their headline slot at the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival tonight (August 23) due to singer Liam Gallagher falling ill.

The frontman is suffering from viral laryngitis.

The Manchester band performed last night (August 22) at the Staffordshire leg of the festival, although after that set Noel Gallagher blogged that he too felt unwell, writing: “Don’t feel too clever. Outrageous stomach ache. Feel like I’m coming down with summat (sic)”.

Tonight’s show was due to be Oasis’ final UK date of their ‘Dig Out Your Soul‘ world tour.

An Oasis spokesperson explained that the V Festival slot was the first gig to be cancelled on the year-long trek.

“After a year of being on the road this is the first performance to be lost to a band member’s illness, so naturally we are all completely gutted. Liam is resting up and should be fine to resume the tour next Friday (August 28) in Paris,” they explained.

Snow Patrol will now headline the V Stage at Chelmsford tonight.

Liam Gallagher slags Pete Doherty at V Festival

Oasis vs Babyshambles

OASIS singer LIAM GALLAGHER has hit out at PETE DOHERTY during the band’s set at V FESTIVAL – comparing him to a 4ft inflatable penis.

The band have just finished their headline set at Hylands Park in Chelmsford – their only UK festival appearances in support of their current album “Don’t Believe The Truth”.

During “Bring It On Down”, Liam made a subtle reference to Doherty’s well publicised drug troubles, by changing a lyric to “You don’t care because you’re smoking crack”.

However, he was more obvious as soon as the song finished. After asking for the house lights to be put on the audience, Liam spotted an inflatable penis in the audience.

“It’s good to see Pete Doherty turned up,” he said, “one big cock.”

Liam’s feud with Pete began when Doherty failed to turn up to an Oasis support in Southampton.

In Chelmsford (August 20), the group played the highlights from their current album “Don’t Belive The Truth”, as well as a handful of classics from debut album “Definitely Maybe”.

Speaking to NME before the gig, guitarist Noel Gallagher said he had mixed feelings about the festival, but the band were up for the gig.

He said: “I’ve been a few times and only ever seen one good gig – that was The Coral a few years ago. I’m looking forward to it, it’s the only festival we’re doing in England this year. I think it could be good craic.”

Speaking about the band’s best ever festival performances, Gallagher admitted that up until now, none of their best sets had been in the UK. He continued: “You can count out all the ones in England. I don’t think we’ve ever pulled it off for some reason. Maybe this time. The thing is, when we’re playing festivals abroad, we’re usually second on the bill – we never get to headline. Whenever we’ve headlined Glastonbury by the time we get one everybody’s twatted.”

The set was:

  • “Fuckin’ In The Bushes” (intro)
  • “Turn Up The Sun”
  • “Lyla”
  • “Bring It On Down”
  • “Morning Glory”
  • “Cigarettes And Alcohol”
  • “The Importance Of Being Idle”
  • “A Bell Will Ring”
  • “Live Forever”
  • “The Meaning Of Soul”
  • “Mucky Fingers”
  • “Champagne Supernova”
  • “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star”

Encore:

  • “Wonderwall”
  • “Don’t Look Back In Anger”
  • “My Generation”
