Man who attacked Oasis’ Noel Gallagher pleads guilty

Daniel Sullivan admits causing bodily harm

The man accused of attacking ex-Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher in Toronto last year has pleaded guilty to assault.

Daniel Sullivan admitted causing bodily harm to Gallagher in the Ontario Court of Justice yesterday (November 20).

“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical chords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” said Crown attorney Ruth Neilson in reading an agreed statement of facts to Justice Richard Schneide.

The court heard Sullivan almost made it to Liam Gallagher, but was tackled by security and was taken to the ground on stage.

He was then held backstage and police said Sullivan was resisting, struggling and screaming as he was arrested. Officers tried to calm him down.

Gallagher was attacked at the V Festival in Canada on September 7 2008.

He suffered three broken ribs, causing the band to cancel a slew of gigs.

Neilson said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time and has no recollection of how he was able to mount the stage, except that he “remembers attempting to climb over the fence”.

Noel Gallagher stated it took eight months before he felt normal again, reports the Toronto Sun.

Schneider ordered a pre-sentence report for Sullivan. His sentencing hearing will begin on February 5, 2010.

Don’t fuck with Noel Gallagher: Bühnen-Angreifer droht hohe Haftstrafe

Shocking NEW video of Noel Gallagher attacked on stage

See exclusive new footage shot from backstage

THE News of the World today reveals unseen video footage of the moment a crazed drunk stormed the stage at an Oasis gig – attacking Noel and lunging for Liam. Our exclusive footage – shot from the side of the stage – shows the full violent attack, and chaotic aftermath, as security desperately tried to restrain the attacker. And it shows the assailant being bundled roughly off stage by at least four burly officials, who perhaps did look back in anger, as they struggle to subdue him.

One onlooker said: “From the side of the stage you could see just how violently Noel was hit. He’s just catapulted forward on to his speakers, then there’s a mass of bodies as the lights go up and the security guys chase in after and jump on the attacker. What the crowd didn’t see was him being literally dragged off by security. His shirt gets pulled up around his arms, and you can see his bare back. Then security stop and get the situation under control. It’s darker at the side of the stage and it looks like the man struggles and needs to be physically restrained. But security soon show him who’s in charge.”

Noel, 41, was left badly injured after the attack – during the Canadian V Festival last Sunday – when he fell forward heavily on to a set of monitor speakers. The band – famed for a succession of Brit Pop hits including Live Forever and Wonderwall – has since cancelled two gigs, as Noel takes time out to recover. The guitarist – the older of the Gallagher brothers – needed hospital treatment for bruised ribs and compared the assault to sparring with boxer Ricky Hatton.

He said: “Someone, who can only be described as a Canadian, was able to get on stage, somehow managed to evade our crack security team – Trotters Independent Security Service – and assaulted my midriff. Can’t say much more than that as the perpetrator’s gonna get the book thrown at him. Repeatedly. It was all going so well up until that point. Feel like I’ve had a sparring session with Ricky Hatton.”

He’s also accused the “drunken Canadian” of having a mid-life crisis. The attacker then lunged for Liam, 35, who managed to drop his shoulder and dodge out of the way. The incident was also filmed from a fan in the crowd, and later put on YouTube, but our exclusive high-quality footage gives the band’s view of the attack.

The onlooker added: “It’s pretty violent, and people were worried for Noel. Hopefully the man will get what’s coming to him.”

Toronto police have charged 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan with the assault.

How Oasis’ V Festival attacker made it onstage

Eyewitnesses tell NME.COM how assailant evaded security

Details of how the Oasis attacker managed to get onstage and push Noel Gallagher over during a gig have begun to emerge.

As previously reported, the Oasis guitarist was pushed to the floor during their set at the V Festival in Toronto on Sunday (September 7).

According to Virgin spokesperson Nathan Rosenberg, the invader – identified as 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan – gained access to the stage by evading security, and was not someone with a backstage pass.

“This person seems to have found a hole in somewhere near the stage area and crawled on the stage,” he told The Ampersand in a video interview. “Security guards are now looking at how that took place and we’re looking at that as well to make sure that it never happens again.”

Emailing NME.COM, fans “Derek and Adi” revealed they had seen the man moments before he got onstage.

“We saw the attacker run from the main crowd and run past security to the entrance to the stage,” they wrote. “He ran up the stairs right past everyone and pushed Noel over. He literally made a break for it and made it all the way onto the stage. As soon as he was onstage we witnessed at least five police officers run after him onto the stage. Shortly after we saw several police taking him down the stairs and out of our view.”

Did Oasis V Festival attack spoil star collaboration?

Rumoured Paul Weller spot dropped after Noel assault

A strongly-rumoured collaboration between Oasis and Paul Weller at the Canadian V Festival may have been ruined by the onstage assault on Noel Gallagher on Sunday (September 7).

The guitarist was pushed to the ground by an intruder during his band’s set, forcing the group to leave the stage for nearly ten minutes.

Although Oasis returned to finish the show, according to a statement the guitarist was later “taken to hospital after the show to be examined for a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage. The assailant was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault”.

However, according to a source at the festival, Weller – who was also on the bill – had been due to join the band on ‘Champagne Supernova’, a track he originally guested on when it appeared on the band’s 1995 album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’.

“There was a rumour going around the festival that Weller was going to play the solo on the song, like he does on record, all day,” the source told NME.COM. “However, just before the band played their last song they all huddled together, there was a bit of a discussion and then they launched into set closer ‘I Am The Walrus’.

“Afterwards, there was talk that the band had to cut the song due to time, and that meant no Weller.”

Whether Weller was due to guest or not, suggestions that the song was cut do appear to be backed up by the fact that when Oasis kicked off their world tour in Seattle ‘Champagne Supernova’ was the song that immediately preceded the set closer.
