Stone Roses reform?

It’s “only a matter of time” until STONE ROSES reform, NOEL GALLAGHER has claimed.

Speaking in the current issue of City Life magazine in Manchester, Gallagher, who is friends with Ian Brown, claimed the four original members of the Roses would “be idiots” if they didn’t play together again.

He said: “They’ve got unfinished business, and they’d have to do new tunes, but they’d be idiots if they didn’t; Mani would at the drop of a hat; Ian (Brown) and John (Squire) have got issues, but they can be worked out.”

The three original members of the band, except Brown were recently spotted at a gig together in Manchester.

IAN BROWN was joined by NOEL GALLAGHER and old bandmate MANI onstage at the MANCHESTER APOLLO last night.

The ex-Stone Roses singer performed the gig (October 18) as part of his solo tour to support his current album “Solarized”. However, in addition to his own songs, Brown performed many Roses classics – the first time he’s done it in his home town in almost a decade.

During the encore Gallagher came onto the stage and helped Brown on recent single “Keep What Ya Got”. The Oasis man co-wrote the song, and provided backing vocals and lead guitar.

Later in the set, Brown went to the side of the stage, and persuaded Mani, who played bass with Brown in the Roses to come out and take a bow. The bassist had been spotted earlier in the night prompting speculation he would perform some songs live, but that didn’t come to pass.

“Let’s have a big hand for Mani”, Brown smiled. “Mani’s in the house!”

The audience then went crazy as the pair hugged and waved.

For the final encore Brown was joined on stage by DJ James Lavelle, and did the two songs he recorded with UNKLE – “Be There” and “R.E.I.G.N.”.

The setlist ran:

  • “Destiny Of Circumstance”
  • “Sally Cinnamon”
  • “(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister”
  • “Where Angels Play”
  • “Waterfall”
  • “Made Of Stone”
  • “She Bangs The Drums”
  • “Golden Gaze”
  • “Love Like A Fountain”
  • “If Dolphins Were Monkeys”
  • “Longsight M13″
  • “The Sweet Fantastic”
  • “Forever And A Day”
  • “Time Is My Everything”
  • “F.E.A.R.”
  • “I Wanna Be Adored”
  • “Love Bug”
  • “Keep What Ya Got”
  • “Be There”
  • “R.E.I.G.N.”

Gallagher delighted by Stone Roses resurrection

Rocker Ian Brown has delighted Oasis singer Noel Gallagher by playing a full set of Stone Roses songs for the first time in almost ten years last Sunday night (25 July 2004).

Gallagher – who will feature on Brown’s next single ‘Keep What You Got’ – was thrilled by the performance at Claremount Landscape Garden National Trust park in Surrey, England.

The veteran star hired members of tribute band Fools Gold and played an hour of classics, including ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, ‘Fools Gold’ and ‘Waterfall’.

One fan at the show says, “I wasn’t old enough to see the Stone Roses and I’ve seen loads of tribute bands, but this is the closest anyone will ever get to seeing the real thing.”

The Stone Roses split in 1996.
