Robbie Williams schlägt wieder zu

London – Robbie Williams ist zurück – und auch wieder abseits der Musik in alter Form. So kommentiert er die Trennung seiner alten Rivalen Liam und Noel Gallagher von Oasis mit harten Worten.

«Sie haben eine Ehrenrunde von 13 Jahren hinter sich. Da gab es den einen oder anderen Edelstein wie ‘The Importance of Being Idle’, aber das war es dann auch», zitiert das britische Boulevardblatt «The Sun» den britischen «Bodies»-Sänger. Die Brüder wären so störrisch und überhaupt besser ohne einander dran, so der 35-Jährige, der nach seinem Ausscheiden bei Take That 1995 sogar kurz Unterschlupf bei Oasis fand.

‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ is your choice

Oasis are celebrating after winning the Best Video prize tonight (February 23) at the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006.

The band’s clip for the single ‘The Importance Of Being Idle’ was victorious, beating Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, The Strokes and Kaiser Chiefs.

Oasis’ award, which was voted for by NME readers and MTV2 viewers, was picked-up on the band’s behalf by actor Rhys Ifans, who starred in the video as a lazy undertaker in a funeral parlour run by the Gallagher brothers.

He said: “Oasis can’t be here, there’s been a terible air accident and they’re all dead. Legends.”

The full nominations were:

ShockWaves NME Awards 2006: The Shortlist

Kaiser Chiefs, Oasis, Franz and Bloc Party amongst the nominations

After weeks of number crunching your votes the nominations for the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 can finally be revealed.

Leading the way on the shortlist are the Kaiser Chiefs, who have bagged nominations in key categories Best British Band, Best Album, Best Live Band, Best Track, Best Video, Best Website and Best DVD.

“Obviously we’re very pleased,” said the band’s drummer Nick Hodgson after learning of his band’s nominations. “It all sounds brilliant. It’s great to be up for the album and live awards. It means people appreciate what you do.”

With the polls now open so you can vote for the final results, Hodgson added he was looking forward to the February 23 ceremony. “I hope people vote for us because we’ve never won anything we’ve been nominated for before,” he explained.

However the Kaisers will face stiff competition in every category with the likes of Oasis, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes and the Arctic Monkeys all picking up nominations.

Oasis top Q’s single of the year poll

COLDPLAY’S X&Y has been named the best album of 2005.

The release – which shot to number one in 28 countries and became the second fastest-selling album in British history – topped a list compiled by Q magazine.

Oasis confirmed their return to form with The Importance of Being Idle named best single of the year.

In the album chart, cartoon band Gorillaz were runners-up with Demon Days.

Kaiser Chiefs were third with Employment – which was the favourite to win the Nationwide Mercury Prize but was pipped at the post by Antony & The Johnsons.

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson said: “I’m actually dead chuffed. I would have hoped it would have been in there to be honest – which I know sounds arrogant, but then being in a rock band you have to be arrogant, don’t you?”

The band also had two entries in the singles list – I Predict A Riot at number three and Oh My God at number four.

Oasis album Don’t Believe The Truth was fourth, followed by I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning by Bright Eyes.

James Blunt, Franz Ferdinand, Arcade Fire, KT Tunstall and Hard-Fi completed the top 10.

Oasis back on top of pop charts

LONDON (Reuters) - Oasis shot straight to the top of the pop charts on Sunday, one of seven new entries to burst into the top 10 this week, according to the Official UK Charts Company.

“The Importance of Being Idle” is the second top hit for the one-time bad boy Manchester band from their recent album “Don’t Believe The Truth” following on from the success of “Lyla”.

It is their eighth number one single.

In second spot was “Pon De Replay” by Caribbean-born star Rihanna while Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter was unmoved in third place with “Bad Day” staying ahead of “Lay Your Hands”, a new entry from former Blue singer Simon Webbe.

Former number one James Blunt was down to fifth with “You’re Beautiful” with U.S. hip-hop act Black Eyed Peas debuting in sixth with “Don’t Lie”.

“Popstars” winners Girls Aloud were new in seventh with “Long Hot Summer”, with last week’s number one McFly dropping to eighth with “I’ll Be OK”.

Kaiser Chiefs were another new entry in ninth place with “I Predict A Riot” with “My Doorbell” from The White Stripes debuting in 10th.

Oasis set for top spot

Oasis are set to land their eighth number one single this week with ‘The importance of being idle’ comfortably outselling its nearest rivals.

According to midweek sales figures, the Manchester rockers are way ahead of Blue singer Simon Webbe with his debut single ‘Lay your dands’.

Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Girls Aloud, White Stripes and Kaiser Chiefs are all set for new entries inside the top 10, but could be challenged by Freemasons and the Rolling Stones.
