As many of you may already know, the Modfather Paul Weller picked up the Godlike Genius Award at last week’s NME Awards. No argument from us; the guy is a legend. No one would agree with us more than Noel and Gem.
Noel recorded a special message for the awards and Gem was asked by Paul to join him on stage to perform as part of his band playing guitar and providing backing vocals.
If you’re not in the UK or didn’t catch the TV broadcast you may have missed the guys so we decided we’d go trawling the interwebs to find you the footage:
HERE’sNoel talking about Paul (approximately 3′20″ in).
And a little later on in the same video Gem performs ‘Start’ and ‘Eton Rifles’ with Weller.
Gem also performed with Paul at his performance at the Haiti Benefit at The Roundhouse on the 25th February. To donate to the charity or find out more about their work, click HERE!
And while we’re on the subject, Gem is not only a killer guitar player he also enjoys dabbling in graphic design and made up an exclusive art print for us. You can check that out HERE!
NOEL GALLAGHER is consulting his lawyers over an article in today’s News of the World attributing derogative remarks about his former band members to the Oasis songwriter. Yet again this tawdry tabloid is fabricating lies about ex-members of Oasis, and has clearly sunk to new depths this time.
In today’s paper they write that Noel has made derogatory comments about Liam’s new band (which they still insist on referring to as Oasis, another of their many errors). The claims made in the article and the quotes attributed to Noel are simply untrue. What’s more, we have learned that the article was written by the same hack journalist who brought fans the ‘exclusive’ that Liam had recruited a female bass player recently. The woman named in that article, who’s actually a fan website editor, embarrassed the newspaper with a categorical denial within hours of the story surfacing.

Noel has been a long-time supporter of Teenage Cancer Trust over the years having played with Oasis in 2002 and 2003, Gem and Paul Weller in 2007 and on his own at the very first concert in 2000 where he performed ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ with The Who. His 2007 performance was released digitally last year as ‘The Dreams We Have As Children‘, proceeds from which went to the charity.
Noel told us, “Ten years ago I got a call from Roger Daltry asking me to join him for the first ever concert for Teenage Cancer Trust. It was a proud moment for me as a musician and since then I’ve been honoured to support this amazing charity.”
Other acts set to play this year include The Who, The Specials, Them Crooked Vultures and Arctic Monkeys.
Paul Weller has said that he believes that Oasis splitting has been a good thing – and told NME.COM that he would be happy to work with both Noel and Liam Gallagher.
The Jam’s former frontman said that he liked both the Gallaghers“equally” and would not pick sides because of the split.
“Creatively, I think the Oasis split is going to be good thing,” he said. “There’s going to be some great things to come from both of them in the future. I’d definitely be up for collaborating with Liam and with Noel. I love them both equally, and think they’re both extremely talented in their own ways.”
Singer speaks out at the Manchester launch of his clothing line
Liam Gallagher has spoken out about his love for his brother and former Oasis bandmate Noel.
Talking at the launch of his Pretty Green clothing line at the Manchester branch of Selfridge’s today (December 2), the singer revealed his feelings towards Noel, despite previously saying that he had no interest in speaking to him again.
“He’s doing his thing, we’re doing our thing, I wish him all the best,”Liam told Sky News. “I don’t wish him any bad, I’m his brother. I love him to death.” He added, but did warn Noel by saying “Don’t release it [Noel's solo album] the same day, ‘cos we’ll ave ya.”
Asked whether he had a message to pass onto his brother, Liam cheekily said: “Good luck mate – see you in the next world. Don’t be late!”
“We’re sorta going through the mill of getting a new name, nothings sticking, so we’ve drawn the line on the names at the moment.” He explained. “People are still gonna go ‘Its still Oasis, but its not Oasis without Noel‘ – life’s too short to be arsing about with what people think and that. We’ll see what happens, we’re concentrating on the music at the moment.” He added.
The man accused of attacking ex-Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher in Toronto last year has pleaded guilty to assault.
Daniel Sullivan admitted causing bodily harm to Gallagher in the Ontario Court of Justice yesterday (November 20).
“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical chords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” said Crown attorney Ruth Neilson in reading an agreed statement of facts to Justice Richard Schneide.
The court heard Sullivan almost made it to Liam Gallagher, but was tackled by security and was taken to the ground on stage.
He was then held backstage and police said Sullivan was resisting, struggling and screaming as he was arrested. Officers tried to calm him down.
Gallagher was attacked at the V Festival in Canada on September 7 2008.
He suffered three broken ribs, causing the band to cancel a slew of gigs.
Neilson said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time and has no recollection of how he was able to mount the stage, except that he “remembers attempting to climb over the fence”.
Noel Gallagher stated it took eight months before he felt normal again, reports the Toronto Sun.
Schneider ordered a pre-sentence report for Sullivan. His sentencing hearing will begin on February 5, 2010.
“My current new favourite German band of all time. Proper tour bus music. Spiritual!!”
That was how Noel described the band Neu! this time last year.
Oasis are big fans of Neu! and you can hear their influence on songs such as ‘Falling Down‘ which Noel described as “3 chords, 1 note – Krautpop!!”
So it was nice to read today on The Quietus that Michael Rother – legendary guitarist and founding member of Neu! – praised the Oasis track ‘Can Y’See It Now? (I Can See It Now!!)‘ which was featured on the Neu!-influenced compilation ‘Brand Neu!‘ earlier this year.
“I very much enjoyed listening to that compilation. To be honest, I also quite like the Oasis track. I mention that because I read in some reviews that they got a bit of a beating. It was of course surprising to read that Noel Gallagher expressed his admiration for Neu! and that he convinced his brother to adopt some of the ideas. When I heard that Oasis single ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’, I immediately understood the idea behind that, the fast-forward movement, the strong surge in combination with a Beatles-esque sound. To me that’s an interesting combination, Neu! crossed with Beatles ideas.”
The quote comes from an article due to be published tomorrow at The Quietus which we’re sure will be worth a read.
If you’re unfamiliar with Neu!’s music then you should definitely check them out. Noel’s particular favourite is ‘Hallogallo’ off their debut album, but you can’t really go wrong with any of their albums.
For those of you in the UK who wish to delve a little deeper into the world of Krautrock, BBC4 will be showing a documentary about it this coming Sunday.
