Oasis, Stone Roses legends join Ian Brown

Ian Brown

Ian Brown

Madchester Reunited

IAN BROWN was joined by NOEL GALLAGHER and old bandmate MANI onstage at the MANCHESTER APOLLO last night.

The ex-Stone Roses singer performed the gig (October 18) as part of his solo tour to support his current album “Solarized”. However, in addition to his own songs, Brown performed many Roses classics – the first time he’s done it in his home town in almost a decade.

During the encore Gallagher came onto the stage and helped Brown on recent single “Keep What Ya Got”. The Oasis man co-wrote the song, and provided backing vocals and lead guitar.

Later in the set, Brown went to the side of the stage, and persuaded Mani, who played bass with Brown in the Roses to come out and take a bow. The bassist had been spotted earlier in the night prompting speculation he would perform some songs live, but that didn’t come to pass.

“Let’s have a big hand for Mani”, Brown smiled. “Mani’s in the house!”

The audience then went crazy as the pair hugged and waved.

For the final encore Brown was joined on stage by DJ James Lavelle, and did the two songs he recorded with UNKLE – “Be There” and “R.E.I.G.N.”.

The setlist ran:

  • “Destiny Of Circumstance”
  • “Sally Cinnamon”
  • “(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister”
  • “Where Angels Play”
  • “Waterfall”
  • “Made Of Stone”
  • “She Bangs The Drums”
  • “Golden Gaze”
  • “Love Like A Fountain”
  • “If Dolphins Were Monkeys”
  • “Longsight M13″
  • “The Sweet Fantastic”
  • “Forever And A Day”
  • “Time Is My Everything”
  • “F.E.A.R.”
  • “I Wanna Be Adored”
  • “Love Bug”
  • “Keep What Ya Got”
  • “Be There”
  • “R.E.I.G.N.”

Gallagher delighted by Stone Roses resurrection

Rocker Ian Brown has delighted Oasis singer Noel Gallagher by playing a full set of Stone Roses songs for the first time in almost ten years last Sunday night (25 July 2004).

Gallagher – who will feature on Brown’s next single ‘Keep What You Got’ – was thrilled by the performance at Claremount Landscape Garden National Trust park in Surrey, England.

The veteran star hired members of tribute band Fools Gold and played an hour of classics, including ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, ‘Fools Gold’ and ‘Waterfall’.

One fan at the show says, “I wasn’t old enough to see the Stone Roses and I’ve seen loads of tribute bands, but this is the closest anyone will ever get to seeing the real thing.”

The Stone Roses split in 1996.

Noel besuchte Ian Brown-Gig

Ian Brown @ Claremont Landscape Gardens

FOR most STONE ROSES fans, the dream of seeing IAN BROWN swagger on stage and belt out I Am The Resurrection died years ago.

But on Sunday, in the beautiful setting of Claremont Landscape Gardens in Surrey, he treated thousands of die-hards to more than an hour of classic Roses material.

Backed by Stone Roses tribute band FOOLS GOLD, Brown’s gig included I Wanna Be Adored, Waterfall and She Bangs The Drum.

He even managed to surprise his most dedicated followers with some of his former band’s rarest tracks, including Mersey Paradise, Sally Cinnamon and Where Angels Play.

He finished with his own hits My Star, Golden Gaze and the brilliant F.E.A.R. – and they carried on seamlessly from the Roses songs.

Since the Stone Roses split in 1996, Brown has seldom played the music he penned with his ex-bandmates, guitarist JOHN SQUIRE, drummer RENI and bassist MANI.

So this was a fantastic chance for fans to relive old memories of the huge Roses gig at Spike Island, Widnes, in 1990.

A young NOEL GALLAGHER looked on that day – and was there again on Sunday to receive a reminder of where it all began for OASIS.

Noel will also feature on Ian?s next single, Keep What You Got, taken from his fourth solo album, due out later this year.

Manchester United!

NOEL GALLAGHER and IAN BROWN have collaborated on a track for the former STONE ROSES vocalist’s new album.

According to The Sun newspaper, the pair met by chance at the Electric Cinema in London’s Notting Hill.

“We got talking about music and agreed we should do something,” explained Brown .

He added: “Noel sent me some music he’d done and I recorded a vocal. The result is brilliant, I’m really excited. I hope it will be a single.”

The news comes after denials from the Oasis camp that Liam was to form a supergroup with ex-Roses guitarist John Squire. As previously reported on NME.COM, the band claim the story was “dreamed up” by editorial staff at The Sun.

Oasis are currently working in the studio on the follow-up to “Heathen Chemistry”, which is due for release later this year.

Brown’s new album is expected in August or September.
