Liam Gallagher: “My post-Oasis album will be out by July”

Plus singer regrets the band’s ‘poor’ workrate

Liam Gallagher‘s new band are aiming to release an album by July.

The singer says that his new group – featuring former Oasis bandmates Andy Bell and Gem Archer – had eight songs, and are aiming to head into the studio soon.

“A lot of these songs I wrote before the band [Oasis] split up,” Gallagher told XFM. “I mean, there’s a few new ones on there that are coming out now.”

He added: “We’re going in [the studio] in April with a producer, we’re going to do three songs with him and if he doesn’t balls it up and we don’t balls it up then we’ll go in and do the whole album with him.”

Gallagher suggested he was keen to get on with the new, still nameless group – saying he regretted the fact that Oasis only made seven albums in the 16 years they had a record deal. He called the amount of music Oasis’ put out in their career “poor”, and chastised the band for taking so long to produce new material.

“Seven albums for Oasis is not good, I don’t think. We’ve been going 18 years, 16 years or whatever and all we’ve done is seven albums. Ian Brown’s on his seventh solo album. I just think it’s poor, really,” Gallagher said.

“I’m not going to beat myself up about it, I think we should have made better, bigger albums. Or more albums. Having like four or five years off is just no good,” he added. “Obviously NoelGallagher) wanted a bit of time off and we don’t. The band split in August – we was in the studio in November ‘cos we’re mad for it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gallagher said he wants to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here or Total Wipeout – but only if no other contestants are involved.

“I’d like to do all that shit,” he said, before adding that Total Wipeout is his favourite reality TV programme of the moment. “They do it in Argentina. I’d love to do it on my jaxy, with no one about.”

Coldplay, Oasis and Ian Brown for Spike Island?

Oasis, Coldplay and Ian Brown could feature on the bill of a new music festival at Spike Island which is due to take place after the local council gave the go ahead.

Halton Council’s executive board have given its approval for a three day event due to take place in May.

According to widnesworld.co.uk Cllr Rob Polhill said: “This event is set to be the biggest concert here in ten years and it is appropriate that it is taking place at Spike Island, where the Stone Roses played their famous concert.”

A free show involving local bands will kick off the festival on the Saturday and a source has informed Gigwise that organisers have approached former Roses front man Brown plus Oasis and Coldplay as possible headliners for a rock extravaganza on the Sunday.

David Millar, director of promoters Surprisingly Good Events, said: “The festival will be taking place before the other major concerts such as the Reading Festival so that bands can still play both.”

“It’s only a matter of time until Stone Roses reform”

Stone Roses reform?

It’s “only a matter of time” until STONE ROSES reform, NOEL GALLAGHER has claimed.

Speaking in the current issue of City Life magazine in Manchester, Gallagher, who is friends with Ian Brown, claimed the four original members of the Roses would “be idiots” if they didn’t play together again.

He said: “They’ve got unfinished business, and they’d have to do new tunes, but they’d be idiots if they didn’t; Mani would at the drop of a hat; Ian (Brown) and John (Squire) have got issues, but they can be worked out.”

The three original members of the band, except Brown were recently spotted at a gig together in Manchester.

Oasis and Maroon 5 for V Festival

We’ve heard a strong rumour that tickets to V Festival 2005 may go on-sale next week, accompanied by a major announcement – Oasis and Maroon 5 to headline, with Ian Brown on the bill!

This information is yet to be officially confirmed, but we’ll be the first to let you know when any more details are available.

If we’re correct about the headliners, the festival – scheduled to take place at the dual sites of Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire on August 20 and 21 – is set to follow the alternating rock n’ roll/ pop headliner formula it pioneered last year with The Strokes and Dido. The bizarre combination proved surprisingly effective and marked the first time a major festival has successfully crossed between the traditionally adverse genres.

Gallagher booed off Brown’s Manchester gig

Oasis star Noel Gallagher stormed off stage during a recent concert in his home city – after disgruntled fans threw bottles and booed at the shocked singer.

The Don’t Look Back in Anger rocker had hoped to surprise fans by making a surprise appearance at ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown’s gig, to perform their duet Keep What Ya Got at the Apollo Manchester, Britain.

Gallagher was horrified by the crowd’s inhospitable reaction but Brown rescued the concert by telling off the fans and dragging Gallagher back onto the stage to finish the show.

One fan says: “The gig was fantastic, until Noel spat out his dummy. He came on as a surprise guest but he was booed and a pint was chucked at him and went all over his guitar. The Ian made some comment about how Noel is his hero and that we should show him some respect.”

A Universal Records spokesman contends: “Noel said somebody threw a half-pint of lager on him and it went all over his jacket and guitar. So he went off to give his jacket to a roadie. Ian went to see why Noel had stopped playing, so that’s why he walked off as well.”
