Noel Gallagher: “Damon Albarn is a great artist”

Oasis star brands their feud ‘pathetic’

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has called his former rival Damon Albarn a “great artist”.

The star, embroiled in a bitter war of words with the Blur frontman during the 1990s, has finally laid their feud to rest in an interview with The Guardian, branding it “pathetic”.

Of the feud, which centred on the chart battle between their rival singles ‘Roll With It’ and ‘Country House’, Gallagher said: “Looking back now that fight’s all so pathetic over two really quite shit pop songs. He’s a great artist. He’s different from me. I’m not an artist – for me, it just comes out. He does Chinese operas and that kind of thing, he’s got more strings to his bow than I’ll ever have.”

However, asked whether the pair got on, he admitted: “There’s always been something between me and him, and I don’t know what it is.”

Damon Albarn slams Oasis

(BANG) - Damon Albarn has slammed Oasis for appearing at the BRIT Awards. The former Blur singer – who has been feuding with brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher since the Blur versus Oasis Britpop chart battle of the mid-90s – says it was “unnecessary” for Oasis to accept the Outstanding Contribution To Music award and perform at last month’s ceremony.

Damon told Britain’s NME magazine: “The BRITs is like the shopping channel for famous people. I don’t really understand why Noel and Liam did the awards, it didn’t seem necessary. Their contribution is obvious.

“They’re certainly better than Sting, so why put yourself in a position when you’re putting yourself into a linage following him? I don’t understand it.”

Noel – who said he hoped Damon would “catch AIDS and die” at the height of their feud – recently said he liked Damon’s new band The Good, The Bad and The Queen.

However, Damon insists he will never be friends with the Oasis guitarist.

He said: “I can’t make it up with Noel. Britpop would be over and heaven forbid that we’d ever admit we’d all grown up! Britpop still reigns supreme over Britain as a musical force and will do until Blur and Oasis split.”

Noel Gallagher’s Damon praise

Noel Gallagher likes rival Damon Albarn’s new band.

The Oasis guitarist, who has been feuding with Damon for years since the famous Blur versus Oasis Britpop chart battle of the mid-90s, is impressed by his enemy’s latest musical project The Good, The Bad and The Queen’.

Noel – who once said he hoped Damon would “catch AIDS and die” – told Britain’s NME magazine: “I love the bit at the end of their song ‘The Good, The Bad and The Queen’ when it goes crazy. There are some nice passages of music on their album as well.”

Although Noel’s hostility to Damon has softened, the Blur frontman recently insisted he will never make friends with ‘The Masterplan’ singer.

Damon said: “I can’t make it up with Noel. Britpop would be over and heaven forbid that we’d ever admit we’d all grown up! Britpop still reigns supreme over Britain as a musical force and will do until Blur and Oasis split.”

“Ich mag das Ende von dem Song The Good The Bad And The Queen. Überhaupt gibt’s da ein paar nette Passagen auf dem Album.”

Gut, das ist jetzt noch keine Liebeserklärung, aber schon meilenweit weg von “Wixer”, “Volldepp” und was wir sonst so hatten. Wir können nur hoffen, dass Liam seinen Biss noch nicht verloren hat.

Damon Albarn: “I get on fine with Liam Gallagher”

Damon Albarn

It’s Noel he has a problem with…

Damon Albarn, 38, claims he and old rival Liam Gallagher, 34, ‘get on famously’.

The two musicians have been feuding since the mid-90s when Britpop giants Blur and Oasis went head-to-head in the charts with their singles Country House and Roll With It.

Damon insists he and Liam have put their differences behind them, but he and Liam’s brother Noel, 39, still don’t speak.

‘The weird thing is I get on famously with Liam, but me and Noel never talk,’ he tells NME. ‘For some reason the chances of me and him having a normal conversation are off limits.’

Noel is reported as saying that he wished Damon would get AIDS at the height of their feud.

‘I can’t make it up with Noel,’ says Damon. ‘Britpop would be over and heaven forbid that we’d ever admit we’d all grown up!

Gallagher’s son loves rival’s music

LIAM GALLAGHER’s young son GENE is a huge fan of animated band GORILLAZ – the creation of his dad’s arch-rival DAMON ALBARN. Gallagher’s band OASIS and Albarn’s BLUR battled to top the UK singles chart in 1995, and became involved in a heated war of words. Gallagher’s fiancee, ALL SAINTS singer NICOLE APPLETON, admits their five-year-old son loves the Gorillaz, much to the chagrin of his father.

She says, “Gene loves Oasis, but he really loves the Gorillaz. Liam bumped into Damon in the street and told him, ‘My kid is a big fan of yours.’ I love the Gorillaz too so I think Gene has good taste.”

Blur’s Damon Albarn has renewed respect for Oasis

Damon Albarn has admitted that he has a renewed respect for his once arch nemesis Oasis.

After beating Oasis’s ‘Roll With It’ to the number one spot with ‘Country House’ in their head-to-head battle during Brit-pop’s heyday, it seems the Blur frontman now holds Oasis in higher esteem.

He told the Daily Star: “All credit to Oasis – the way they’ve managed to keep themselves together. They’re threatening to be the Rolling Stones.”

Gallagher and Albarn confirmed for Band Aid

Following earlier reports that Coldplay, Travis and The Darkness have been approached to feature on a new re-recording of the Band Aid hit “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” comes the news that Brit Pop’s two biggest arch rivals will both be taking part.

For weeks, rumours have been circulating that a new version of the song is being planned featuring a whole host of current acts (the third time the single has been released). In fact, bookies were already making it odds-on favourite to top the Christmas charts before the single’s release was confirmed.

Whereas the original version was coordinated by Sir Bob Geldof, this time co-founder of Band Aid, Midge Ure will be acting as executive producer on the record and has been trying to assemble the artists.

While some reports claim Coldplay, Travis, The Darkness and Jamelia are already confirmed, Ure has just stated in an interview with 6Music that two of the UK music scenes biggest stars, Oasis’ Noel Gallagher and Blur’s Damon Albarn will be putting aside their differences to appear on the track.

Midge went on to confirm that Band Aid III will be happening in an undisclosed London studio sometime in the next few weeks with Radiohead, Beck and Travis producer Nigel Godrich handling production duties.

Robbie Williams, Keane and Dido have all been approached and Midge also explained that he intends to get Bono from U2 to re-sing his line “Well tonight, thank God it’s them, instead of you?” from the original 1984 version of the song.

Gallagher mistaken for rival Albarn

Oasis singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher is fuming after a fan mistook him for musical nemesis Blur singer Damon Albarn.

The two bands have been bitter chart rivals since they released albums (What’s the story) morning glory? and The great escape within a month of each other in 1995.

Since then the two groups have enjoyed a war of words in the media – so Gallagher was stunned to be mistaken for Albarn, who also performs with animated dance act Gorillaz.

He explains, “This bloke said, ‘I’m a massive fan. When’s the next album out?’ So I said, ‘Some time next year.’

“He asked, ‘Will it be with the band or with Gorillaz?’”
