Healy: “Gallagher is gonna kick Okereke’s butt”

Travis frontman FRAN HEALY has sent a warning to Bloc Party singer KELE OKEREKE – his rocker pal LIAM GALLAGHER wants to “kick his arse”. Okereke and the Oasis frontman have been embarking on a war of words in the British press since last year (06). Okereke said, “(Oasis) had a totally negative and dangerous impact on the state of British music. It is really daft to reinforce the idea that there is something cool about being dumb.” Healy explains, “When Liam catches up with Kele he’ll probably kick his arse. “But you have to admire Kele. He’s gobby (loud-mouthed) but he’s smart with it. His anti-Oasis rant made me sit up. I won’t say it was what made me buy the Bloc Party album but it did get my attention and I have bought the album.”

Bloc Party tackles Oasis

ROCK band Oasis have “made stupidity hip”, according to one of their rivals.

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke hit back after Liam Gallagher dismissed them as “a band off University Challenge”.

Okereke told Uncut magazine: “I think Oasis are the most over-rated and pernicious band of all time. They had a totally negative and dangerous impact upon the state of British music.”

“They have made stupidity hip. They claim to be inspired by the Beatles but, and this so saddens me, they have failed to grasp that the Beatles were about constant change and evolution. Oasis are repetitive Luddites,” he added.

Okereke, the son of a molecular biologist, studied English literature at King’s College, London.

Gallagher left school with no qualifications and claimed in 2005 to be reading a book for the first time in his life: Angels And Demons by Dan Brown.

Asked about Gallagher’s “University Challenge” remark, Okereke said: “Well, it’s quite funny. It probably would have been a lot more funny had he not used exactly the same words to describe Travis a couple of years ago.

“Having said that, it’s probably a very sad indication of the state of his mind. Why is it bad to better yourself? It’s all about the weird way in which this country chooses to view the working classes. It is really daft to reinforce the idea that there is something cool about being dumb. The idea that your ambitions shouldn’t extend beyond getting drunk and watching the football really irks me. It’s this idea that to be authentically working class you need to be untainted by the airy-fairy ephemera of education. And it seems to be pretty unique to this country.”

Noel Gallagher blasts British bands down under

Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party all come in for a tongue lashing

Noel Gallagher has taken his tirade against the current crop of British indie bands Down Under, branding them “indie shit”.

Speaking on Australian radio station Triple J the Oasis guitarist blasted the likes of Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs.

“Let’s call it what it is – it’s indie shit, is what it is,” he said. “None of them are trying to make it big. They’re all trying to make it small or medium – that’s it.

“Don’t get me wrong – I kinda like Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs [but] Bloc Party are just appalling. None of them strike me as trying to be in the biggest band in the world or the best band in the world – it’s just indie rubbish.”

Gallagher also spoke about Oasis’s recent tour with Aussie rockers Jet.

He added: “It was really, really great. We had some monumental gigs and some even more monumental nights in dressing room and nights out on the town – it was really, really good fun.

“The bass player went home with his tail in between his legs, because he was threatening to drink every member of my band under the table – and I quote him on saying that – and he would promptly pass out around midnight.”

Oasis are about to begin a four date tour of Japan before they play six dates in Australia.

They return to the UK in December for a run of sold-out dates including a mammoth show at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

Liam Gallagher: “I don’t like Bloc Party”

Liam Gallagher has dismissed Bloc Party saying that he doesn’t “give a fuck” about them.

The Oasis singer admits that he doesn’t like the band who have been billed as the next Oasis, Blur and Radiohead in the past.

Speaking to mtv, he said: “Fair play to them (Bloc Party), they’re having a go, doing what they’re doing and all that and people seem to be in to them.” He continued:

“People ask me these questions like ‘are they the new fucking Oasis, new fucking Blur or the new fucking thing?’ I couldn’t give a fuck, I don’t like them. I don’t wish anything bad to happen to them, its just not my kind of thing. Same goes for fucking Babyshambles.”

Sadly, Liam says that he won?t resort to violence against the foursome, saying: “I don’t want to fight them, I don’t want their fucking birds, I don’t want to shoot their dogs, I don’t want to stand on their hamsters head. I’m just not into their music.”

Liam Gallagher: ‘Diese fucking Babyshambles.

Liam Gallagher says he’ll work with Bloc Party

Despite comparing the London’s band’s line-up to a panel of students on ‘University Challenge’, the Oasis frontman said he’ll work with Kele Okereke and co if they write meet his standards.
“I’d love to do a tune with Bloc Party,” Liam told Virgin Radio. “If they’ve got a song that’s good enough then I’m having it.”

Liam added that Bloc Party and the other bands he attacked, were justified to hit back at him recently.

“I am a music lover and they (the bands he’s attacked) have every right to slag my band off,” he explained. “I just put bands in their places. There are a load of bands I like and there is a load of bands I fucking detest because they are shit.”

The Oasis frontman, who’s new album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ is released tomorrow (May 30), also explained that he’s not really concerned about writing songs for his band.

“If I didn’t write another song again it wouldn’t bother me,” he said. “I get my kicks from singing more than sitting there doodling about with fucking lyrics.”

Liam added that he doesn’t believe he’s improving as a writer and often needs guitarist Gem’s assistance.

“Gem helps me out a lot, I struggle with lyrics sometimes,” Liam explained. “I can’t find the words. The words I find hard ‘cos I’m fucking thick.”

Rock’s new stars hit back at Oasis

Don’t believe the uncouth!

Rock’s new school have hit back at OASIS after their controversial NME cover story.

In our recent interview with the band, who are on the comeback trail with new album ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’, the Gallagher brothers rubbished the vast majority of Britpop’s next generation.

Talking about Keane, Noel said: “Traditionally speaking, the three biggest twats in any band are the singer, the keyboardist and the drummer. I don’t need to say anything else.”

But Keane pianist Tim Rice-Oxley slammed Noel, telling NME.COM: “The biggest twats in a band? We don’t really care. I think he’s a c*** to be honest. He was in a band that was very brilliant in the mid-nineties and now they’re just not important anymore. No-one really cares.”

Responding to Liam’s diss that they looked like “a band off University Challenge,” Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack told NME.COM: “I used to buy NME in the nineties when Oasis were in their prime and the reason I bought it was ‘cos Liam Gallagher would say something stupid and funny every week. However, I thought that was really poor, that was the same thing he said about Travis and Coldplay. I’m throwing down the gauntlet because we don’t hate Oasis but I want a nice insult.”

However, Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson wasn’t so phased to be branded “a bad Blur” who “wear make-up”, beaming: “I was chuffed to bits. To even occupy space in Liam’s mind so he’d open his mouth about us is a compliment. He had a go for me wearing make-up, but the only reason I ever wore make-up was to look like him. It’s hard to get that dark, swarthy look in your eyes when you’re a ginger.”

Oasis slammed by Bloc Party

British rockers OASIS have come under fire from newcomers BLOC PARTY as they prepare to release their eagerly anticipated sixth studio album.

Oasis guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER has hailed his band’s upcoming disc as their best work since debut album DEFINITELY MAYBE – but their POSITIVE TENSION rivals brand Oasis’ distinctive sound “lazy”.

Drummer MATT TONG says, “I always thought they were really lazy and unambitious.”

While guitarist RUSSELL LISSACK adds, “Looking back they wrote some good pop songs, but I remember at the time really detesting them.”
