Liam Gallagher slags Pete Doherty at V Festival

Oasis vs Babyshambles

OASIS singer LIAM GALLAGHER has hit out at PETE DOHERTY during the band’s set at V FESTIVAL – comparing him to a 4ft inflatable penis.

The band have just finished their headline set at Hylands Park in Chelmsford – their only UK festival appearances in support of their current album “Don’t Believe The Truth”.

During “Bring It On Down”, Liam made a subtle reference to Doherty’s well publicised drug troubles, by changing a lyric to “You don’t care because you’re smoking crack”.

However, he was more obvious as soon as the song finished. After asking for the house lights to be put on the audience, Liam spotted an inflatable penis in the audience.

“It’s good to see Pete Doherty turned up,” he said, “one big cock.”

Liam’s feud with Pete began when Doherty failed to turn up to an Oasis support in Southampton.

In Chelmsford (August 20), the group played the highlights from their current album “Don’t Belive The Truth”, as well as a handful of classics from debut album “Definitely Maybe”.

Speaking to NME before the gig, guitarist Noel Gallagher said he had mixed feelings about the festival, but the band were up for the gig.

He said: “I’ve been a few times and only ever seen one good gig – that was The Coral a few years ago. I’m looking forward to it, it’s the only festival we’re doing in England this year. I think it could be good craic.”

Speaking about the band’s best ever festival performances, Gallagher admitted that up until now, none of their best sets had been in the UK. He continued: “You can count out all the ones in England. I don’t think we’ve ever pulled it off for some reason. Maybe this time. The thing is, when we’re playing festivals abroad, we’re usually second on the bill – we never get to headline. Whenever we’ve headlined Glastonbury by the time we get one everybody’s twatted.”

The set was:

  • “Fuckin’ In The Bushes” (intro)
  • “Turn Up The Sun”
  • “Lyla”
  • “Bring It On Down”
  • “Morning Glory”
  • “Cigarettes And Alcohol”
  • “The Importance Of Being Idle”
  • “A Bell Will Ring”
  • “Live Forever”
  • “The Meaning Of Soul”
  • “Mucky Fingers”
  • “Champagne Supernova”
  • “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star”

Encore:

  • “Wonderwall”
  • “Don’t Look Back In Anger”
  • “My Generation”

Liam: “Babyshambles will never support Oasis again”

LIAM GALLAGHER has revealed that PETE DOHERTY has blown his chances of supporting OASIS after failing to turn up to one of their gigs.

Doherty failed to show up to a recent gig at Southampton where he was due to support them with Babyshambles.

Doherty claimed he was unable to return from France in time after attending fashion designer Hedi Slimane’s birthday. Oasis subsequently replaced Babyshambles for their planned second support slot at Milton Keynes with The Zutons.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Liam said: “That’s where the relationship ended. What we’re not going to do is give him a second chance. It’s not a question of professionalism. It’s much more simple than that. This is the greatest group in the world and what we’re not going to do is let anyone, Pete Doherty, Liam Gallagher or Elvis, fuck it all up.”

Milton Keynes line up

The Zutons have replaced Babyshambles as the Special Guest at this Saturdays Oasis show at Milton Keynes Bowl. A spokesperson for Oasis’s management said that Babyshambles failed to show without any warning or explanation at the Oasis Southampton Rose Bowl last Wednesday. As a result they don’t want to run the risk of disappointing fans with another no show for such an important event this Saturday.

Other show times are not affected and the concert will continue as planned.

Rock band Babyshambles were forced to cancel a support slot with Oasis on Wednesday because singer Pete Doherty was unable to get back from France.

The group were due to play at Southampton’s Rose Bowl and pulled out just hours before they were due to go on stage.

A spokesman for the band confirmed Doherty could not get transport from France in time for the concert.

The singer was in Paris celebrating the birthday of a French fashion designer.

‘Dazed’

Babyshambles’ spokesman said their next support slot with Oasis on Saturday would go ahead as planned in Milton Keynes.

Doherty, formerly with the Libertines, performed at the Live 8 concert in London’s Hyde Park last Saturday alongside Sir Elton John.

The BBC’s Ian Youngs, who saw Doherty’s performance, remarked on the singer’s “gothic get-up” and “dazed” look.

Doherty’s new band Babyshambles have been touring extensively over the past year, and are planning to release their debut album in the autumn.

They are also set to tour widely throughout the summer, including appearances at the Leeds at Reading festivals.
