Liam Gallagher: “The Oasis vs Blur fued is over”

Singer says he now ‘buzzes off’ Damon Albarn

Liam Gallagher has called an end to his feud with Britpop rivals Blur.

His band Oasis and the London group were arch rivals in the 1990s, with it all coming to a head when both bands released a single on the same day in 1995 – Blur’s ‘Country House’ beat Oasis’ ‘Roll With it’ following a massive war of words between the two bands.

Now the Oasis frontman says he’s not only over the rivalry, but actually likes Blur frontman Damon Albarn.

“I don’t mind Blur,” Gallagher told Mojo. “I’m over it [the rivalry]. It was a laugh man, that’s what you do when you’re young.”

He added: “When I see Damon Albarn, I buzz off him. If I was still caught up in it now I’d be a right wanker.”

The singer’s comments follow those of guitarist Noel Gallagher, who told NME.COM earlier this year that he respects his rivals as musicians.

“You know Damon, bless him, I’ve got a lot of respect for him. This never comes across in interviews, but I really do mean it,” Noel said. “Because I’m indifferent to Damon, he thinks that I think he’s a cunt. Our Liam will talk to him. I won’t because he’s just another singer in a band to me, but I don’t think he’s a cunt. Good luck to him.”

Blur, meanwhile, are set to consider reuniting for a new record next week. Bassist Alex James has said all four members will have lunch together to discuss working again following guitarist Graham Coxon’s departure from the band in 2002.

Liam: “I sounded like Tweetie”

LIAM GALLAGHER always said OASIS were the biggest and best band in the world. But now the gobby frontman has confessed most of their early material makes him cringe — because he says he sounds like TWEETIE PIE. He said: “I hate my voice on all them records. I sound like f****** Tweetie Bird. I mean, they were good at the time, it’s the best I could do, but I prefer it the way it is now. When I hear Slide Away, I think, ‘That’s a vocal’. Supersonic, that’s all right. But certain songs, Live Forever, some of the high bits I just think (head in hands), ‘Aw, f*** that’. I was young. I hate that vocal on Whatever. I despise it. It’s s***.”

So, I got my graphics whizzes to do Tweetie up with a Liam haircut.

Even so, I reckon he’s being tough on himself. The Manc legend turned 35 last week and has clearly mellowed, admitting, “I’m not too shy to give love, man.”

The way he talks about sons Lennon and Gene — by his ex PATSY KENSIT and his missus NICOLE APPLETON — is a far cry from his Britpop hell-raising days. Of six-year-old Gene, he said: “His hair is like, golden blonde. My kid’s got the best haircut in the world, man. I do it every day. The comb is your friend! I think I’m a top dad. Haven’t got a nanny, none of that.”

Describing a typical day in the life of Liam, he said: “Get up, tea, relax and watch JEREMY KYLE give it everyone. I love Jeremy Kyle, he’s a geezer. One day he’s gonna lose it and proper have it with someone (mimes headlock) and I’m mad for that on live TV. Followed by Loose Women. The Loose Women are having it, man.”

The reformed rocker also opened up about his fears about the day Oasis split. He said: “I’d go insane, wouldn’t I? ‘Cos it’s your life. I’m dreading the day if that’s the way it’s gonna be. But who knows what it’s gonna be? Just concentrate on one year at a time. One day at a time.”

Music certainly wouldn’t be the same without him.

Noel Gallagher: “Somewhat predictably our new single is brilliant”

Oasis leader speaks about ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’

Noel Gallagher has spoken following news that Oasis will be releasing a brand new single in October.

NME.COM has full details of ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’s release online now.

Appearing this morning (September 24) on Radio 1 with DJ Chris Moyles, the guitarist spoke about the new release, quipping that “it’s coming out on that internet”.

Sharing the band’s inspiration for the online release, he explained: “You know there’s a DVD coming out for Christmas… somewhat predictably. The title track was so brilliant that the powers that be said ‘lets just put it out’. And I’m like, ‘well we’re not ready to do that yet’. So, it was decided it would be a nice thing to put it out for those people who have computers.”

Joking about his lack of technological prowess, he stated: “I’m not one of those people, so it’s a good job I get my own copy of it, because I wouldn’t get it otherwise. I’ve got an iPod, but Gem sorts all that out for me. That’s filth, y’know?”

Meanwhile the Oasis leader also spoke about the birth of his second child, a son, at the weekend (September 22).

After Moyles congratulated him, Gallagher joked: “What? for being third in the league?” – referring to the impressive start to the season his football team Manchester City have made – before explaining he was there for the birth.

“I was there,” he explained. “It was alright for me, my missus was giving me a bit of stick afterwards, saying, ‘you never took your jacket off all the way through!’ I was just in my leather jacket, nodding ‘you’ll be alright, just get it out before Soccer AM finishes’. I think the worst thing is that you don’t have any specific role [as a father at the birth]. You just stand there and nod.”

He added that he had named the boy Donovan Rory Gallagher after “his granddad Rory”.

Gallagher added: “He’s called Donovan. Sounds like a man who means business already.”

For more exclusive information on Oasis’ single release get this week’s issue of NME, on newsstands from September 26.

Noel: “My boy will be a legend”

HE must be the coolest newborn on the ward. The tot was just hours old when dad NOEL GALLAGHER hailed his son Donovan as a legend.

No pressure then, young man.

The OASIS star sent friends and family a text on Saturday afternoon to announce his baby news.

It read: “He shall go by the name of Donovan Rory MacDonald Gallagher and he will be a legend. Give thanks and praise.”

I assume little Donovan is named after the Sixties Mellow Yellow singer rather than former Neighbours star Jason or LA Galaxy striker Landon. But the lad was almost handed a more unusual name. Noel has been joking for weeks he was going to call the kid Sven. The songwriting hero has become a big fan of the name since SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON turned around the fortunes of his beloved Man City.

But his lovely missus SARA MACDONALD put a stop to that idea. A pal said: “During the pregnancy Noel was calling the bump Little Sven. He said he wanted to name the lad after the City boss. Luckily he’s ended up as Donovan.”

Sara’s first baby was born at 11.15am on Saturday at London’s Portland Hospital after a seven-hour labour. He weighed in at 7lb 5oz and Sara insisted on a natural birth. Noel — who has a seven-year-old daughter, Anais, with ex wife MEG MATHEWS — is delighted to have a little lad to take to watch City. And Donovan was born just a day after uncle Liam’s birthday.

Meanwhile, Oasis have signed a new deal with Universal Music Group.

The band control domestic releases through their own Big Brother label but previously Sony took care of international distribution. Universal now have that role, starting with next month’s DVD release of Lord Don’t Slow Me Down. After a short paternity leave Noel will be back in the studio to work on the new Oasis album. The lads have been working on the record in London’s Abbey Road Studios. Noel — who fronts a Radio 1 Legends show at 9pm tonight as part of their 40th birthday celebrations — has described the new tracks as “heavy”. And the album — expected early next year — will no doubt provide a fine soundtrack for his son’s early life.

So congratulations Noel and Sara and welcome to the world the legendary Donovan Gallagher.

Oasis DVD, Lord Don’t Slow Me Down, Previews in Second Life

From Monday September 24, 2007

September 21, 2007 – Press Dispensary – UK rock band Oasis is opening its official online space in the virtual world Second Life (SL) this Monday, September 24, and is kicking off with a preview of its latest release, a feature-length-plus, limited edition double DVD entitled ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’. The facility – built for Oasis in Second Life’s ‘New Horizon’ business park – is a joint venture between SL developer New Business Horizons (NBH – http://www.nbhorizons.com) and SL media producer Phoenix Film & Television (http://www.phoenixmedia.co.uk).

From Monday, visitors can watch the DVD’s trailer as they browse around the space, pick up free goodies such as a virtual t-shirt and coffee table book, have a look at stills from the production and pre-order the double DVD itself for real world delivery by Amazon. The real world release of ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’ is scheduled for October 29, 2007 by Big Brother Recordings in the UK and Big Brother Recordings/Universal internationally.
Shown at a handful of screenings during 2006, ‘Lord Don’t Slow Me Down’ is a feature-length, full-on ‘definitive’ documentary in which film-maker Baillie Walsh follows the Gallagher brothers on a year-long world tour of 26 different countries, playing to more than two million people. For the DVD release, the feature also offers the option of voice-overs from the band, a Noel Gallagher Q & A session with fans from New York City and outtakes from the film. The limited edition version contains a second disc with a 90 minute live DVD capturing the band’s homecoming show at the City of Manchester Stadium in July 2005, together with footage sent in by fans.

The trailer for the product – which gives a fascinating insight into Oasis experiencing the ups and downs of the road, and what they make of their lives – is being shown only in Second Life and on MySpace.

Alan Haymes (SL avatar: Doctor Hickman) of NBH explains: “The Oasis space mirrors everything you’d expect in the real world, but with the added advantage that it’s accessible to visitors from all over Second Life at the touch of a simple teleport button.”

Emma Fulford of Universal Music adds: “Oasis fans can be found in all corners of the ‘real’ world and we wanted to make sure that their Second Life counterparts also enjoy what promises to be one of the decade’s greatest rock documentaries and live concerts.”

The Oasis SL store can be found at SLURL http://slurl.com/secondlife/Blue%20Horizon/81/153/26.

Oasis star becomes a dad

Noel Gallagher celebrates the birth of his second child

Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has become a father after his partner Sara MacDonald gave birth to a baby boy this morning (September 22).

The 7lb 5oz has been named Donovan Rory MacDonald Gallagher by the couple, according to The Sun.

It is the couple’s first child but Gallagher’s second after his ex-wife Meg Mathews gave birth to his seven-year-old daughter Anais in 2000.

Gallagher split from Mathews in 2000 after a three-year marriage before they divorced in January 2001.

The Oasis leader and his current partner have been together for seven years.
