The bassist, whose band were the Manchester group’s musical enemies in the 1990s, also praised frontman Liam Gallagher’s vocal skills. He says, “I thought it was a really good song. Wish I’d written it. He’s got a great voice Liam and I think that’s their finest moment.”

Noel Gallagher cancels Kasabian gig

British rockers Kasabian were left disappointed when Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher pulled out of a one-off collaboration at the Glastonbury Festival. Gallagher – whose long-awaited rockumentary Lord Don’t Slow Me Down premieres at the English festival later on Sunday – was forced to cancel his duet with the band in favour of time in the studio.

Kasabian bassist Chris Edwards says, “It’s the only weekend Noel can work with a U.S. producer on his new album.”

Radio 2 celebrates Sgt. Pepper’s 40th with a little help from…Oasis

To mark Radio 2’s 40th anniversary of the Beatles’ seminal album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” Oasis have recorded a version of the George Harrison penned classic “Within You, Without You”.

The track’s producer is Geoff Emerick, engineer on the original album. He used the same four-track mixing desk and tape machine to record the track in Abbey Road’s Studio 2, where the original song was also recorded. A Radio 2 documentary on the re-recording of all tracks from Sgt. Pepper’s is available on the BBC website link below. Oasis are just one of the acts contributing towards the re-recordings from the album, along with Stereophonics, Libertines, Razorlight, Zutons and others.

Noel ‘to meet with producer’

Noel Gallagher is apparently meeting up with top producer Dave Sardy this week to start making plans for the next Oasis album.

The 40-year-old will be talking to the music man – whose credits include the Spider-Man 3 and Casino Royale soundtracks and studio collections for Wolfmother and Jet – about the follow-up to Don’t Believe The Truth.

The Oasis singer told the Daily Star: “We start talking about the new album on Friday. I’ve got 17 songs ready, everybody else has three each. F*** knows when it will be out – 2010. Don’t hold your breath.”

The 40-year was snapped partying at the Mojo Awards earlier this week with his pregnant girlfriend Sara MacDonald.

He joked the duo had been discussing names for the baby.

“I’m thinking Genghis, Gandhi or Goliath for the kid. Something with a G has got a ring to it,” he laughed.

Rob James-Collier’s Liam Gallagher biopic wish

Rob James-Collier would love to play Liam Gallagher in a biopic film of his life. The ‘Coronation Street’ star – who plays Underworld factory boss Liam Connor – is a huge Oasis fan and thinks he looks similar to his hero.

Rob told Britain’s Soaplife magazine: “Before I come on Corrie some people though I was a bit like Liam so if there’s a film of him I’d love to do it. I love early Oasis.”

But the 28-year-old may have trouble getting into character as he does not share the ‘Mad Fer It’ Manchunian’s two greatest skills – singing and fighting.

Rob said: “I can’t sing and I can’t dance. Just the thought of it scares me. And I’m the softest lad you’ll ever meet! When it comes to fights I’m a runner. When in doubt – get out!”

The sexy soap star – who scooped the Sexiest Male Award at this year’s British Soap Awards – is currently dating a fashion designer, but has promised to keep her identity a secret.

He said: “She says she doesn’t want jealous girls coming looking for her! I think she’s bigging me up a bit there!”

The Coral make their live return to London

Oasis watch as band pack out the Astoria

The Coral made their live London return last night (June 18), packing out the Astoria and treating them to a concoction of previous hits and new songs.

Watched by the whole of Oasis, James Skelly bounded on stage brandishing his maracas, before simply introducing the band with “Hello, we’re The Coral.”

The band dived headfirst into tunes from their debut self-titled album, including ‘Spanish Main’, ‘Simon Diamond’ and ‘Goodbye’.

The band also played tracks from 2003′s chart-topping ‘Magic And Medicine’, including the singles ‘Don’t Think You’re The First’ and ‘Pass It On’.

New songs from the forthcoming ‘Roots And Echoes’ album were simply introduced and rapturously received by the swelling crowd, and included new single ‘Who’s Gonna Find Me’ in addition to ‘Jacqueline’ and ‘In The Rain’.

Briefly addressing the rising temperature of the venue, Skelly exclaimed “It’s fucking hot!” before rewarding fans with ‘Dreaming Of You’ and ‘In The Morning’.

The band quickly returned to the stage, the encore consisting of ‘I Remember When’ and ‘Bill McCai’.

Support came in the form of Kate Nash, who graced the stage earlier on in the evening.

Noel Gallagher: “I was embarrassed for Kaisers and Razorlight”

Oasis man speaks after Beatles tribute album

Oasis star Noel Gallagher has revealed which ‘Sgt Pepper’ track they have covered for a Radio 2 special – but he’s not so keen on some of the other artist who have tackled songs from the LP.

Oasis have recorded ‘Within You Without You’ to celebrate 40 years since the release of ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.

The George Harrison-written song was specially chosen by brother Liam Gallagher, as Noel explained, “I said if Liam wants to do it, I’ll do it, so he was up for it and decided he was going to pick the song. I just assumed he would say ‘A Day In The Life’, but he came back with ‘Within You Without You, and I was, like, ‘What? There’s no guitars on it!’”

The tribute record also features the talents of Razorlight and Kaiser Chiefs.

Speaking of the difficulties the bands faced, recording with the original Abbey Road recording equipment, Noel expressed his opinion on the performances of fellow contemporaries Razorlight and Kaiser Chiefs.

He said: “I was watching Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight on the documentary and with the greatest respect to those two bands, it was embarrassing. I was embarrassed for them.”

Speaking of why the record is so close to his heart, Noel revealed: “‘Sgt Pepper’ is special for me because I was born on the 29 May, and it came out on the 1 June. So when I was being born in St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, it was being played on hospital radio.”

Oasis to start recording new album

Noel Gallagher says the band will hit the studio very soon

Oasis are to start work on their seventh studio album on July 3.

Guitarist Noel Gallagher has named the date when the band will be recording a follow-up to 2005′s ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’.

“The songs are written… but don’t hold your breath because the last album took three-and-half-years and three goes,” he told BBC News. “It would be great if it was done by the end of the year and we could get out on the road by next summer, but that’s insane wishful thinking.”

Previously the guitarist has told NME.COM that this album will be more experimental than Oasis’ more recent efforts.

“For the next record I really fancy doing, you know, a record where we just completely throw the kitchen sink at it,” Gallagher declared. “We haven’t done that since ‘Be Here Now’ (in 1997)… get like a 100 piece orchestra and choirs and all that.

“I think since ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ (2000) we’ve been trying to prove a point of just bass, drums, guitar and vocals and nothing fancy. But I kind of fancy, like, making an absolutely fucking colossal album. You know? Like literally two orchestras, stuff like that.”

Osbourne defends Oasis

OZZY OSBOURNE has leaped to the defence of OASIS, whose critics claim they are a BEATLES tribute band. Osbourne believes the English rockers’ music is original, despite claims to the contrary that they attempt to copy their idols John Lennon and Sir Paul MCCartney. The former Black Sabbath frontman tells London’s Time Out magazine, “Everybody says they rip them off, but I don’t think so. “It’s dead easy to start a forest fire in this game. You say, ‘Ozzy’s got a false nose.’ All of a sudden, everyone looks the same. Same thing with Oasis. Everyone just kept saying it and it stuck.”
