New album is better than ‘Definitely Maybe’

Noel tells the whole ‘truth’

NOEL GALLAGHER has given an exclusive interview to NME.COM where he claimed new LP ‘DON’T BELIEVE THE TRUTH’ is better than their classic debut ‘DEFINITELY MAYBE’.

Although they scrapped it three times and it took three years Noel told NME.COM that Oasis are back on form and he’s prouder of their sixth studio album than any other Oasis record in the last ten years.

He told NME.COM: “I’m more proud of this one then of any album since ‘Definitely Maybe’. We stuck it out, we stuck to our guns and we pulled it off.”

With single ‘Lyla’ being released on May 16, the album following two weeks later on May 30 and a massive tour including appearances at V Festival (August 20-21) to come, Noel admitted it felt strange to return to full action with Oasis after ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’s isolated recording process.

“It’s like pulling a huge, big elastic band back,” he suggested. “It went all the way back for three years and now we’re ready to let go. We’re getting back into the swing of things, it’s been ‘What? We’ve got to do a video on Friday? Whoa, whoa!”

‘Don’t Believe The Truth’s elongated recording process has contrasted sharply to the regularity between the band’s previous albums, leading some to suggest Oasis were in crisis. However, Noel insisted he never panicked.

“We were more into getting this record absolutely spot on for no other reason then the songs demanded it,” he explained. “There was never one point where any of us where worried – apart from Liam who’s like a woman who’s on a fucking permanent menstrual cycle all the time about everything. He’s either way up in the clouds or way down in the gutter. So taking him out of the equation, the rest of us knew it was going somewhere and we kind of had it all in our heads we just couldn’t put our finger on why the versions before the album I’ve got in front of me now weren’t sounding right.”

As with the ‘Heathen Chemistry’, Noel was joined on songwriting duties by his bandmates, and he believes the results back the new approach.

“People are telling me it’s really varied, I just think the album is a good collection of songs,” he explained. “Liam’s are great, Andy’s are brilliant and Gem’s – seriously – are the closest anyone’s going to get to ‘Revolver’.”

He added: “Someone said to me my songs sound like B-sides from 1994. I take that as a compliment because the B-sides I wrote then should have been on ‘Be Here Now’. That would be an insult to some people but not to me.”

With the album now finished, Oasis are turning their attention to touring. The band will play nine massive UK shows for June and July – including a three night stand at The City Of Manchester Stadium (June 30, July 2-3), home of Noel’s beloved Manchester City – as well as playing Madison Square Garden (June 22) and The Hollywood Bowl (September 12) in America.

For the full interview with Noel, see this week’s issue of NME, which is out nationwide now.

Kasabian are mad for it

THEIR followers include stars from William Shatner to Russ Abbott – but Kasabian are in no doubt as to who THEIR favourite fans are.

“It’s Oasis’ f*****g fault we’re in a band in the first place,” says lead guitarist Serge Pizzorno. It was them that started us off. When Oasis came along it kick started the idea that anything was possible. Musically now they’re not an influence on us, but they are relevant because they’re so funny.”

The group have just returned from a hectic US tour and are scheduled to spend much of the year back in the States – and the prospect of a month supporting Oasis in September is something Serge is relishing.

He said: “The fact we get to play with them in America – I mean honestly, I don’t know what to say to Noel! You live out this moment as a kid. It’s going to be amazing going round with our heroes. It’s a f*****g dream come true to be touring with them.”

But as much as they admire the Gallaghers, they don’t want to end up living a similar high life in trendy North London.

“Don’t get me wrong – I think Primrose Hill’s a lovely area,” said Serge.

“It’s nice to have a beer there or nice to travel through in a taxi but I wouldn’t want to live there. I like the gipsy life. Maybe we’ll end up living in Paris or Francisco, maybe move around a bit.”

Perhaps it was going back to nature while living on a farm recording their debut album after first getting signed that makes the lifestyle appealing.

Serge added: “We just wanted to get out of Leicester and have a little base. We rehearsed and did the album there, nobody could get to us. Everyone wanted us to move to London but we’re not really London boys. We like to keep near our family and friends.”

But with such a hectic schedule, spending time at home with family and friends is a little difficult for the Leicester rockers.

“You may as well go for it full on – or you may as well stay at home. We’re back out in May for another seven weeks, then we’re touring with Oasis in September and then we’re going back again at Christmas. Touring the USA was insane. We got there and we were supporting and we thought it would be just a few fans. The buzz over there is insane. Every state we went to our music was on the radio and there were loads of people to see us.”

It seems the Americans have taken to Kasabian well and the band are confident that they can be the next big thing in the States.

“We’ll be seen as the new Stones over there man!” jokes Serge.

“If we work hard enough I think we’ve got a real good chance of cracking it. It’s gonna be down to sheer hard work, but if we put it in, we’ve got a f*****g great chance.”

Körbchen kassiert

LONDON - ‘Oasis’-Rüpel Liam Gallagher soll mehr Oberweite haben als ‘The Phantom of the Opera’-Star Jennifer Ellison.

Noel speaks to Oasisinet about the album tracks

Oasisnet grabbed Noel Gallagher for five minutes earlier today to get an exclusive insight into the 11 tracks that will make up the new studio album “Don’t Believe The Truth” due for release on May 30.

TURN UP THE SUN:
It’s that epic it could’ve and should’ve been the first 3 tracks on the album!!

LYLA:
It’s the soundtrack of our lives doing The Who on Skol in a psychedelic city in the sky (or something!)

MUCKY FINGERS:
The result of one too many nights in the dressing room, brainwashing Gem with The Velvet Underground then thinking “Fuck it! Dylan rules!”

LOVE LIKE A BOMB:
Songbird’s bigger, far more interesting brother. One for the ladies, as Liam says.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING IDLE:
Having nothing to do is such a massive job that someone had to write a song about it.

THE MEANING OF SOUL:
Elvis on Red Bull!!

GUESS GOD THINKS I’M ABEL:
Up until two weeks ago, everyone thought the title was ‘Guess God Thinks I’m Able’!! Now everyone’s confused.

PART OF THE QUEUE:
Doesn’t sound remotely like anything we’ve ever done before. Legendary Cuban percussionist Lenny Castro shuffles up a storm. Amazing.

KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE:
A Song that totally does justice to the title. Will be a live staple for years to come.

A BELL WILL RING:
Ringo’s favourite. Enough said.

LET THERE BE LOVE:
Should’ve been the last 4 tracks on the album. It took 7 years to finish. Worth the wait?? Oh yes!!

Kaiser Chiefs speak

Singer Ricky Wilson sounds off about his new Employment.

March 28, 2005 - Energetic Leeds lads Kaiser Chiefs are in for a busy spring. Though their debut album, Employment, was just released in U.S., they’re already gigging the East coast, they have a song being featured in an episode of the O.C., and they’re scheduled to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman. IGN Music managed to get a hold of vocalist Ricky Wilson while the band was in Chicago preparing for a show. The singer spoke his mind on pressing issues like music downloading, the origins of the band’s odd name, and crappy band names like Oasis.

[...]

IGN Music: Weird set of coincidences.

RW: It’s a great coincidence! The thing is, with any name, saying it all the time?after a bunch of gigs it’s just words after a while. No one thinks about where it came from, you know what I mean? I mean, no thinks about the Red Hot Chili Peppers, that’s a terrible name, but no one thinks about how it came about. Oasis, worst name in the world, it’s a thing in the desert, or in the U.K. it’s a chain of shoe shops!

Gallagher slams Doherty

Outspoken Oasis star Noel Gallagher has hit out at drug-addled rocker Pete Doherty for being too soft.

The Wonderwall guitarist is adamant the troubled Babyshambles frontman wouldn’t be able to cope with life in his hard rocking band.

Gallagher says: “Listen son, you wouldn’t last a rehearsal in Oasis. You’d be injecting washing up liquid into your sphincter.”

The 37-year-old also blasts Coldplay frontman Chris Martin for resurrecting struggling British rockers Embrace’s career by writing smash hit Gravity for them.

He says: “I don’t know what he’s doing writing songs for Embrace – but Chris can write a song.”
