Noel Gallagher: A Correction

It has come to our attention that stories have been circulating in the press that Noel Gallagher would be performing with Ian Brown on the Conan O’Brian show in New York this week.

This was never true and is simply a rumour that was circulated by Ian Brown’s management and publicist.

Noel’s award giveaway

OASIS star NOEL GALLAGHER has donated the numerous accolades his band have won to people tenuously linked to each award – because he’s not comfortable decorating his home with statuettes.

The LIVE FOREVER guitarist picked up a Best Documentary gong for DEFINITELY MAYBE – which documents the recording of their seminal 1994 debut album – at this month’s (FEB05) NME AWARDS in London.

But rather than adorn his mantelpiece with the bronze honour, he plans to donate it to director of the Definitely Maybe film.

Gallagher says, “What we usually do is if we win Best Band, we give it to someone in the office. If we win Best Live, we give it to one of the crew, so this will probably go to the guy who made the DVD. We don’t keep them. We don’t do the gold disc or platinum disc thing. We just give them away – to charities and things to auction off.”

Oasis excited about tour

Outspoken OASIS guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER is delighted tickets for the band’s summer (05) tour of the UK, America and Canada were snapped up in minutes – but he’s worried it’s all too good to be true.

The SOME MIGHT SAY star is particularly pleased about the response in the States because the band make a bigger profit on the shows they play there, but he can’t guarantee the British weather will follow them across the Atlantic – a factor that’s sparked concern in him.

The 37-year-old says, “Well, they sold out and there’s gonna be some really cool support bands… and lets hope the f**king weather stays fine. There’s been lots of people in our office going, ‘Oh, isn’t it amazing?’ But you know these things always are a recipe for a f**king disaster. I’ll enjoy it in the dressing room after we’ve raised the roof. But it is good to flog that many tickets in America, because apparently they’re more expensive.”

Noel Gallagher spills the beans on new Oasis album

Definitely Finished

NOEL GALLAGHER has confirmed that the new OASIS album is finally, definitely, finished.

Talking to NME.COM at last week’s ShockWaves NME Awards, the guitarist revealed how he was relieved now that the long-delayed record is finally ready.

Describing the past year as ‘difficult’, Gallagher said: “Not difficult in that everyone’s been feeling down about things, just frustrating that we thought we got to the finishing line, but when it came to it, it just wasn’t worthy of putting out.”

He added: “The longer that we took to do the album, the better it had to be because of the time from the last one. When it was two years, we asked was it good enough after two years of fucking about and now we have to ask if it’s good enough after three years.”

The follow-up to 2002′s ‘Heathen Chemistry’ has been beset with problems. Early sessions with Death In Vegas as producers were scrapped, and then when the album was thought to be ready for release last summer, until that too was scrapped after the band’s much-criticised Glastonbury performance.

“It’s done now. We master it tomorrow and it’s out on May 26,” confirmed Gallagher, suggesting that a possible title for the record could be ‘The Ear Has No Memory’.

For all the news and backstage gossip from the Shockwaves NME Awards along with exclusive interviews with all the winners, get this week’s collector’s edition of NME, out in London today (February 22) and nationwide tomorrow.

Oasis. McGee. The Ear Has No Memory.

Oasis may turn their backs on the major labels to setup a new record company with former Creation owner Alan McGee, in the hope of recapturing the dynamic relationship that launched the band in 1993.

Despite the band representing themselves in the UK, on their own label Big Brother, their worldwide deal with Sony expires in 6 weeks time.

McGee and Oasis went their separate ways in 1999 when McGee sold his label Creation to Sony to setup Poptones, in an Internet label.

A friend of the band told the Daily Star “Everyone wants to sign them but they want to go through Alan again, probably by creating a new label together and getting a major to distribute the albums.”

The Gallagher brothers have refused to confirm their future plans, but after picking up the Best Music DVD prize at last week’s NME Awards Noel hinted “All I’m going to say is our contract is up in six weeks.”

Meanwhile Noel has confirmed that the new album, tentatively titled ‘The Ear Has No Memory’, is complete, sounding pretty good and set for a Spring release.

“May 26 it’s out. I mean that’s what I’ve been told anyway. Liam’s songs? I’m not gonna tell you the song titles because that’s for him to say, but they’re great. Let me see, how many’s he got? Three. One we played at Glastonbury, called ‘The Meaning of Soul’ and the other two are great.”

“Really really, really good. I mean I can’t say any more than that. We know what it’s gonna be and we know what it’s gonna be called. And that’s, that’s as much as I can tell you, there you go.”

Oasis’ fortunes stateside also seem to be changing with a show at New Yorks finest venue, Madison Square Garden, selling out in just 1 hour last weekend.

Oasis to turn to McGee again?

British rockers OASIS are planning to turn to their former manager ALAN McGEE to help them recapture their old magic.

The WONDERWALL hitmakers – whose contract with SONY ends in six week’s time – have struggled to create their upcoming sixth studio album.

Sources suggest they may turn to McGee, who signed Oasis in 1993 and helped them find fame and success. The two went their separate ways in 1999 when McGee sold his label CREATION to Sony.

A friend tells British newspaper the DAILY STAR, “Everyone wants to sign them but they want to go through Alan again, probably by creating a new label together and getting a major to distribute the albums.”

Band members have refused to confirm plans, but after picking up the Best Music DVD prize at last week’s (17FEB05) NME Awards, guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER hinted, “All I’m going to say is our contract is up in six weeks.”

Noel Gallagher talks album, gigs and America

Speaking to Xfm after receiving his NME award for Best DVD, Oasis helmsman Noel Gallagher talks about his band’s gig plans, the new album selling out Madison Square Gardens and gives the Brits a right slagging.

His brother Liam sidestepped the red carpet at the NME Awards pausing only to yell “Our gigs took long to sell out didn’t they?” at the assembled press, but Noel Gallagher was to be found backstage musing to Xfm about the NME and Brit Awards

“It’s a brand new award isn’t it?” He asked, “So we’re the inaugural winners of ‘DVD Of The Year’. Marvellous isn’t it? I think I’ve only missed two [NME Awards] and I’ve got them on video. The thing about them is that its always compared to The Brits right, and the thing about The Brits is for a certain section of the music industry. There are about half a dozen bands in this room that can kind of cross over there – ‘the chosen ones’ we like to call ourselves – but there’s none of the other shower that are invited to The Brits here. Y’know? The Rodney Williams [sic] and the Joss Stones and the Scissor Sisters are fucking rubbish. And they know it. Thank you very much.”

As for Oasis’ huge sold out upcoming open-air live shows this summers Noel seems more concerned with the weather, and even though their gig at the Madison Square Gardens
in New York sold out in minutes, he still doesn’t reckon it’s gonna be easy back in the US.

“What’re they gonna be like? [the UK gigs] I dunno, I haven’t done ‘em yet. I’ll tell you afterwards. Well, they sold out and there’s gonna be some really, cool support bands. – I don’t like to use the word ‘cool’ but there you go – and lets hope the fucking weather stays fine. ‘Madison Square Gardens’. Let’s talk about that. They sold out in an hour. Did you hear that? An hour. That’s an hour. There’s been lots of people in our office going round sucking each others dicks going ‘Oh, isn’t it amazing?’ But you know these things always are a recipe for a fucking disaster. So I’ll enjoy it in the dressing room after we’ve raised the roof. But it is good to flog that many tickets in America, because apparently they’re more expensive.”

It also looks like the new Oasis album is finally complete and – while Noel is keeping his cards close to his chest – he reckons it’s sounding pretty good.

“Yes. It’s finished, it’s being mastered tomorrow,” he explained, “May 26 it’s out. I mean that’s what I’ve been told anyway. Liam’s songs? I’m not gonna tell you the songtitles because that’s for him to say, but they’re great. Let me see, how many’s he got? Three. One we played at Glastonbury, called ‘The Meaning of Soul’ and the other two are great. Really really, really good. I mean I can’t say any more than that. We know what it’s gonna be and we know what it’s gonna be called. And that’s, that’s as much as I can tell you, there you go.”

“The Meaning Of Soul” auf dem neuen Album

[...] Oasis won best music DVD for ‘Definitely Maybe’ and Noel revealed a bit about their next album, which is out on May 26th.

It’s got three songs on it which are written by Liam including ‘The Meaning of Soul’, which they played at Glastonbury.

He also told us about the massive Madison Square gardens gigs in New York that sold out in a hour:

“There are going to be some really cool support bands. I don’t like to use the word ‘cool’, but there you go. Let’s just hope that the weather stays fine. These things are always a recipe for disaster, so I’ll enjoy it in the dressing room after we’ve raised the roof. But it is good to flog that many tickets in America because apparently they’re more expensive.” [...]
